On remote and inter-urban trains, the transportation of persons in wheelchairs on ICS trains (Inter City Slovenia) is possible, although a compulsory seat reservation still applies. It is also possible on the majority of Euro City (EC) trains as well as onboard some InterCity trains. Trains which have carriages especially for wheel-chair bound passengers are identified in the timetables.
On local services the transportation of passengers in wheelchairs is possible with motorised lifting seats (Siemens / Desiro). These are available on the routes: Ljubljana-Maribor, Ljubljana-Dobova, Ljubljana and Ljubljana-Jesenice-Sežana.
Blind persons and persons suffering from muscular dystrophy and similar disabilities may receive a 75 percent discount on up to twelve trips per year in 1st or 2 class carriage on all trains. Persons accompanying such passengers travel free of charge, as do guide dogs for the blind. This reduction is available with a promotional booklet issued by the Slovenian Associations of the Blind and Partially Sighted, and the Slovenian Association of Muscular Diseases.
Persons accompanying passengers in wheelchairs travel free of charge; free tickets can be obtained at the sales outlet.
Ljubljana railway station is equipped with the appropriate elevators, and access to the platforms is possible with the assistance of a member of the railway staff.
The transport of passengers in wheelchairs on international rail services is possible onboard Euro City (EC) trains, which have carriages designed for wheelchairs. These trains are identified on the timetable.
For the transport of passengers with disabilities on rail routes abroad, a special supplement to the TCV tariff rate applies for the carriage of passengers in wheelchairs and their escorts.
Blind persons with the appropriate identity card, and people in wheelchairs who hold a national disability badge (or certificate) pay a fare with a general reduction for the specific trip. Persons accompanying them travel for free in 1st or 2 class.
Prior to the journey, we recommend that passengers confirm the conditions of carriage and the available access for disabled passengers.
Major international railway stations abroad are typically equipped with elevators and the appropriate facilities for disabled travellers. On some trains, there are also compartments for disabled passengers.
