Take the heritage train along the Bohinj line

We invite you to take a ride into the past. Aboard a steam train from the times of our ancestors, we will take a ride along the picturesque Bohinj railway which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006. Let’s stop the time and spend a truly memorable day together.

Museum train departures in 2013:

Take the heritage train to the Gorica Hills

We begin our journey back in time at Jesenice, and then onwards through Bled and finally to Kanal. For all of you who love travelling by train, this two hour journey along the Bohinj railway line will be an unforgettable experience. Looking down at Lake Bled, numerous gorges and plains, travelling through tunnels, including the longest one, which is 6327 metres long. Make sure you have your cameras ready!

Our expert guides and a group of animators will make your journey a fun experience and will provide you with a plethora of tips and interesting information about the train and the route you will be travelling along. The train offers light meals, snacks and drinks in a buffet car. At 10.52 we shall arrive at Kanal where buses will await us and take us on an enchanting journey along the Soča River, past Anhovo and Plave, to the furthermost western part of Gorica hills, to picturesque hamlets, vineyards and fruit orchards. Our way towards Dobrovo we shall stop by the 23-metre high viewing tower in a place called Gonjače. From the top of the tower, Gorica Hills, displaying all their splendour, will open before our eyes . With a little bit of luck we shall be able to enjoy the view towards the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Julian Alps and Karst. We shall then travel past the medieval hamlet called Šmartno, in the heart of the Gorica Hills, to Dobrovo. At one of the many xcellent restaurant we shall stop for lunch and enjoy some special entertainment. Before we begin or journey home we shall visit the largest wine cellars in the Gorica Hills region, where you will also be able to buy some excellent Bdra wines. At 16.35 we shall board the steam beauty in Nova Gorica and start our return journey towards Gorenjska.

Take the heritage train – without a programme

However, if you prefer to wander alone, you can simply book a train ride and get off the train at any of the designated stops. Call us and we shall be happy to advise you how to spend a pleasurable day. You can also find some interesting suggestions on our web site.

Groups

For groups (45 people or more) we shall be happy to arrange made-to measure programmes within our scheduled journey programmes or outside standard advertised dates.

Perhaps you and your group would be interested in a:

  • train journey to Most na Soči and a visit to Kobarid (visit to the Kobarid Museum).
  • boat trip on the reservoir lake in Most na Soči or a visit to the Tolmin Gorges (Tolminska korita) . . .,
  • train journey to Most na Soči combined with a white-water rafting trip down the Soča river, followed by a picnic lunch.
  • train journey to Most na Soči combined with guided bicycle and mountaineering tours.
  • train journey to Nova Gorica, a sightseeing tour in Gorica, or alternatively, would you prefer to head out into another very different direction?

Special events

The heritage train is not just a train but a special place, intended for special events . . . weddings, business meetings and presentations. On the train you can enjoy a medieval Knights dinner or you and your guest can be transported into another time and place by a group of actors, using the story of your choice.

Return tickets with a programme:

  • Children under 6: free of charge*
  • Children between the ages of 6 and 12: 39 euros
  • Adults: 75 euros

*Accompanied by at least one adult Lunch is not included. Included in the ticket price: lunch, ride on the heritage train, local bus journeys, visit to a wine cellar, animation programme, tour guides (Slovene and English) and excursion organization.

Return tickets without a programme:

  • Children between the ages of 0 and 6; free of charge*
  • Children between the ages of 6 and 12; 25 euros
  • Adults; 41 euros
