Prekmurje is a region where the past and present walk hand in hand . . .rediscover old crafts, experience the burning of »black« pottery objects, visit the county museum and much, much more.
Murska Sobota is the capital of Prekmurje, hiding a myriad of interesting places to visit within its Pannonian landscape. You will be able to discover some of them by waking through the streets of the town with an expert guide.
During your visit to the county museum, located within the castle, you will be able to be acquainted with the development history and geographic characteristics of the region. Visit the permanent exhibition, which depicts many scenes from life in the Mura river region, from prehistory to the present day.
After the visit to the exhibition, there will be a lunch break, and then you will be able to discover some of the traditional old crafts, still alive in this region alongside the river Mura. First you are going to learn about the »doužnjeki«. You will also learn about how the »black« pottery objects are burned inside a round-shaped furnace, which is rarely seen today, and how to make a »pütro« by hand.
And at the end of your trip you will be able to visit the »White Dove« church, a unique blend of old and new. This magnificent building created by the world-renowned master hides within the numerous treasures created by the landscape that entices and intrigues and invites the traveller to get closer to her and her fields, listen to the whispers of the Mura river and meet friendly people! You will leave Murska Sobota with new knowledge, beautiful memories and a strong desire to return. Until the next time . . .
