Explore Italy and more with Slovenske železnice and Arriva
A shuttle bus service running twice per day from Ljubljana to Trieste.
Slovenske železnice partnered up with Arriva to launch »Arriva Express«, a shuttle bus service running twice per day from Ljubljana to Trieste, where it connects with the Italian high-speed trains Le Frecce. This way, Rome is just 7 hours away, and Milano no more than 6, not to mention other Italian cities, such as Venice, Padua, Bologna, Florence and Torino, are far easier to get to. The service also has good connections with Paris – board the afternoon bus in Ljubljana to get to Venice, and then continue your trip on-board the Thello overnight train (includes both sleeper and couchette cars) to reach Paris at 09:55 next morning. The return train leaves from Paris at 19:14, reaching Ljubljana at 14:35 the following day.
Arriva Express services call from No 28 at the Ljubljana bus station twice per day at 7:40 and 15:25, with return service leaving from Trieste at 12:55 and 19:30.
Between 1 June and 30 September, the evening service will call at 22:00 instead of 19:30.
Arriva Express is part of the international train system, which means that your train ticket with the mandatory seat reservation also applies to the bus journey.
Ljubljana-Trieste bus tickets are available at €9.00 for adults and €4.5 for children aged 6 to 12, with children under 6 travelling free of charge.
Tickets to Trieste and other Italian cities can be purchased from the Info Centres at Ljubljana, Celje, Koper and Maribor train stations, as well as from international station ticket offices.
