• Guided journey to the Gorica Hills 

We begin our trip back in time at Jesenice, and then onwards through Bled and finally to Kanal. Anyone who likes travelling by train is sure to savour every moment of the two hours needed to complete the journey on the Bohinj rail line, as they enjoying the view of Lake Bled and numerous gorges and plains, as well as the ride through tunnels, including the longest one with over 6km in length. Make sure to have your cameras ready!

Our expert guides and a group of animators will make your journey a fun experience, providing you with a great many tips and interesting info on both the train and Bohinj railway. If feeling hungry or thirsty, you can buy light meals, snacks, and drinks at the buffet car. The train arrives to Kanal at 11:18am, where the enchanting journey continues by bus along the Soča River, past Anhovo and Plave, to the westernmost part of Gorica hills, to picturesque hamlets, vineyards and fruit orchards. On the way to Dobrovo, we will be making a quick stop at the town of Gonjače to catch a magnificent view of the Gorica Hills in all their glory from a 23-metre high viewing tower. If the weather is good, you can see as far as the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Julian Alps, and even Karst. Our train will also pass by the medieval hamlet of Šmartno, a tiny village located in the heart of the Gorica Hills. We will be stopping for lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants along the way, together with a little bit of special entertainment to spice things up.

Before we head back to Ljubljana, we will also pay a visit to the largest wine cellars in the Gorica Hills region, where you can purchase some excellent wines from the region of Goriška Brda. We will be boarding the steam train at 16:35pm in Nova Gorica and slowly make our way back towards Upper Carniola (Slovenian: Gorenjska).

• Unguided journey – no programme

If you rather check things out at your own pace, you can simply book a train ride and leave the train at any of the designated stops. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the points of interest along the route. You can also find a few interesting suggestions on our web site.

• Group travel

Pre-arranged groups (45 people or more) have the opportunity to choose from the selection of our special programmes which can be organised during regular journeys as well as outside the scheduled timetable:

• Train journey to the town of Most na Soči together with a trip to the town of Kobarid (a visit to the Kobarid Museum). 

• Boat ride on the artificial lake of Most na Soči or a visit to the Tolmin Gorges, 

• Train journey to the town of Most na Soči together with a whitewater rafting trip down the Soča river, followed by a picnic,

• Train journey to the town of Most na Soči together with guided bicycle or hiking trip, 

• Train journey to the city of Nova Gorica together with a sightseeing tour of the city, or a trip to some other destination.

• Special events

The heritage train is far from being just a means of transport; with its rustic atmosphere, it makes the perfect place for a variety of special events, such as weddings, business meetings and presentations. During the train journey, you can also feast like a knight by ordering a medieval dinner, or have a play of your choice performed by a group of actors.

Fares

Return ticket with programme:

• Children under 6 years of age: free of charge* 

• Children between 6 and 12 years of age: EUR 39.00 

• Adults: EUR 75.00

*When accompanied by at least one adult. Lunch is not included. 

The fare price includes a lunch, a ride on the heritage train, any journeys by a local bus, a wine cellar visit, a play performance, tour guidance (in Slovenian and English), and organisation of the trip.

Return ticket without programme:

• Children under 6 years of age; free of charge* 

• Children between 6 and 12 years of age: EUR 25.00 

• Adults: EUR 41.00

* When accompanied by at least one adult.

The fare price includes a ride on the heritage train from Jesenice to Gorica and back, tour guidance, and organisation of the trip.
