The railway is the most environmentally-friendly carrier and facilitates the rapid and high-quality transport of natural products.

As regards WPAO transport, we provide tailor-made services adjusted to the needs of individual customers. Taking advantage of Slovenia’s geographical position, we prepare efficient timetables in order to facilitate the quick and safe transport of goods.

A significant share of our overall transport is accounted for by wood transport in both inland and international traffic. In terms of inland traffic, timber is carried to domestic customers; the high level of Slovenske železnice’s performance is also reflected in the fact that its lines are connected with industrial tracks of most of its customers. In terms of international traffic, timber is carried from Eastern Europe and the countries of former Yugoslavia to meet the needs of the wood-processing industries of Slovenia and Italy. We also participate in the chain of direct international trains that carry cut wood and chipboard from Western Europe to the economic centres of Southern Europe (Greece, Turkey, Croatia etc.) as well as to overseas countries via the Port of Koper.

Our services are also competitive as regards the transport of paper and wood pulp either in transit or for imports or exports.

Slovenske železnice provides an important link in the bulk transport of agricultural products in Corridor 5, in particular wheat from Eastern European states and the Balkans.
