Environment care

Railway transport is much more environment-friendly than road or air traffic.
At Slovenian railways we are aware of our responsibilty towards our environment. Thus we daily act in a manner that helps keep our environment for generations to come.

Our care is also demonstrated by the system of caring for the environment according to the ISO 14001 standard. In 2008 we once again prolongued the validity of the cefirticate for the next three years.

We will continue educating our employees in order to achieve our common goal - continuous improvements in the field of environment-care.

Environment policy of the Slovenian railways

Slovenian railways stand for the upholding of the highest standards, and caring for our environment is an important part of our responsibility towards the society and of our partnership with the public.
Our vision is being adaptable in all aspets of operations. The demands for a clean and healthy environment are included in the leadership, development and functioning of our system. Thus we by our services ensure environment friendly transport of goods and passengers, traffic management and the maintenance of infrastructure, locomotives, waggons and other resources.
By including the system of caring for the environment into the very heart of our operations, we are making a commitment towards a continuous solving of environment-connected problems in the company itself, towards raising ecological awareness of all the employees and our partners and a consistent following of all the statuary and other demands. Decreasing and preventing damage to our environment is a vital part of our continuous development of our system.

Environmental goals of SŽ

- reducing energy consumption,
- reducing water consumption,
- reducing the ammount of waste,
- reducing the use of dangerous substances,
- enceasing the share od dangerous-goods transport per rail.
