Combined transport

SŽ-Tovorni promet offers comprehensive logistics services in combined transport at competitive prices.

Combined transport is a form of intermodal transport, which involves moving goods in one and the same loading unit or road vehicle, using successively two or more modes of transport without any handling of the goods themselves when changing modes, and where the major part of the journey on land is by rail. The method reduces cargo handling, and so improves security, reduces damage and loss, and allows goods to be carried faster.

SŽ-Tovorni promet offers comprehensive logistics services in combined transport – fast and reliable carriage of your goods using wagons from our own fleet or from yours, coupled with last-mile delivery for the final leg of the journey and customs clearance at our Ljubljana container terminal.  Next to delivering the goods on the route specified, we also provide competitive pricing for the full transport route and can help you plan the train journey, as well as offer advice on safety and loading requirements.

Slovenske železnice manage the Ljubljana container terminal, as well as the container terminals – transloading stations in Celje and Maribor.

Range of services

Accompanied combined transport

Also known as the “rolling highway”, accompanied or Ro-La transport is a combined transport system used to transport trucks or lorries by rail, accompanied by their drivers travelling in a railway passenger car or couchette. Using specialised low-floor flat wagons, Ro-La trains are able to carry road vehicles between 2.5 and 2.6m wide and up to 4m high. The trucks or lorries are (un)loaded by means of a portable loading platform at the head of the train.

For more information on Ro-La and other combined transport services, please contact Adria Kombi on +386 12 345 282.

Unaccompanied combined transport

The loading unit (semi-trailer, swap body or container) is transported by rail or ship to the port of Koper, with trucks used for the journey leg to the intermodal (container) terminal. Carrying goods in containers requires no handling of the goods themselves when changing transport, which makes the transloading process quick and efficient. Slovenian railways do not have their own containers. For container dimensions, please visit our website.
