User Charges for the Public Rail Infrastructure (JŽI)

In order to use the public rail infrastructure (javne železniške infrastrukture – JŽI) the rail carrier / applicant must pay a user charge to the infrastructure operator, which covers the costs of its maintenance.

All allocated train routes are entitled to use the infrastructure services, for which a basic user charge is levied. This service includes:

  • The processing of the user application for the allocation of rail routes,
  • The use of tracks on the assigned rail route
  • The use of switches and crossings on the assigned route
  • Rail traffic management, which includes signalling, regulation, cancellation, communication with the trains, and providing information on train movement,
  • Any other information that is deemed necessary in order to fulfil and carry out its service duties on an allocated rail route.

The scale of services provided, the charge calculated, and the method of payment etc., are all detailed in the current Network Statement.
