Traffic Management

The business unit for managing rail traffic is an organised unit that is part of the association of Slovenian Railways Ltd and performs one of the main functions of the company, namely the management of rail traffic on the public rail infrastructure (javni železniški infrastrukturi - JŽI) and related tasks. Rail traffic on the JŽI in the Republic of Slovenia is managed in accordance with the Rail Transport Act governing public service utilities (obvezna gospodarska javna služba - OGJS), and concerns:

• Managing rail traffic;
• Scheduling network timetables;
• Managing the technological side of processes on the network
• Surveying the operations of carriers, which is required in accordance with the Rail Transport Act and its regulations governing rail traffic safety.
• Informing the security body of any suspected violations, committed by a carrier in contravention of its license, security certificate or allocated train route, and informing the Transport Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia of violations of regulations governing the safety of rail traffic.

In addition, the Business Unit for traffic management carries out other tasks as defined in accordance with the Rail Transport Act, which are directly connected with the OGJS of transport management, and include:

• producing and publishing the Network Programme for the Republic of Slovenia
• collecting carrier user charges.

The Traffic Management Business Unit in its capacity as manager of the JŽI carries out its work continuously, to the extent determined by the current network timetable, technological side of work processes and working times of transport hubs. In carrying out its duties, the business unit respects the principles of efficiency, economy and reason.
